The village of Aba, is 3 km to the east of Jenin. The population of this village is 650 people and its area is four thousand acres. In the past, it was called Wadi Al-Diba’ because of the large number of Palestinian hyenas in this area. What distinguishes this village is its strategic location near the Al-Jalama checkpoint, which connects the northern West Bank with Palestine 48. Among the most important institutions in the village are: Aba Al Sharqiya Village Council, Al Diwan Building, Basic School and Aba Mosque.

The village was named “Aba” in relation to the name of an ancient Roman ruin called “Aba” located west of the street surrounding the village, then its name was changed to “Aba al-Gharbiya” after buildinga street that divided the village from Wadi al-Dabaa, and thus it became called “Aba al-Sharqiya”.

Despite its small area, the people of the town had a clear role in resisting the occupation, the first of its martyrs was ” Tawfiq Ahmed Abdel Qader Azmouti”, who was killed during the 1936 revolution, also called The Revolution of Izz al-Din al-Qassam.

من القرى الصامدة في وجه الاستيطان والاحتلال الاسرائيلي قرية عابا و التي تبعد 3 كم إلى الشرق من مدينة جنين، عدد سكان هذه القرية 650 نسمة و تبلغ مساحتها أربع آلاف دونم . كانت تسمى في السابق واد الضباع بسبب انتشار أعداد كبيرة من حيوانات الضبع الفلسطيني في هذه المنطقة. ما يميز هذه القرية هو موقعها الاستراتيجي القريب من حاجز الجلمة الذي يربط شمال الضفة الغربية مع الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة (أراضي 48). من أهم المؤسسات الموجودة في القرية هي: مجلس قروي عابا الشرقية، و مبنى الديوان، والمدرسة الأساسية ومسجد عابا.

سميت القرية “عابا” نسبة الى اسم خربه رومانيه قديمه اسمها “ابا” تقع غرب الشارع المحيط بالقرية، ثم تم تغيير اسمها الى “عابا الغربيه” بعد أن تم بناء شارع يقسم بين القرية و واد الضبع و بذلك أصبحت تسمى “عابا الشرقية”.

بالرغم من صغر مساحتها، كان لأهل البلدة دور واضح في مقاومة الاحتلال المستمر على فلسطين إذ كان أول شهدائها “الشهيد توفيق أحمد عبد القادر عزموطي” الذي استشهد خلال ثورة 1936 التي تسمى ثورة الشهيد عز الدين القسام.
