Al-Zababdeh is a small town between Nablus and Jenin.  It is built on the ruins of an ancient village from the Aramaic era.  Zababdeh in fact is an Aramaic word, meaning “the area of those famous for making butter.”  The town of Zababdeh, especially its old center, is one of several towns that have existed since the first centuries AD.  This is evidenced by various archaeological sites, including the mosaic panels found in the nun’s convent, which are characteristic of the second, third and fourth centuries AD; the ruins of an old church; as well as the ruins of the Burburiya area and the cave of the Catholic monastery.

الزبابدة بلدة صغيرة بين نابلس وجنين تم بناؤه على أنقاض قرية قديمة من العصر الآرامي. الزبابدة هي كلمة آرامية تعني منطقة أولئك المشهورين بصناعة الزبدة.  بلدة الزبابدة هي إحدى البلدات التي تواجدت منذ القرون الأولى للميلاد وخاصة البلدة القديمة ويدل على ذلك وجود مواقع أثرية مختلفة منها لوحات الفسيفساء الموجودة في دير الراهبات والتي تشير إلى عصور القرن الثاني والثالث والرابع الميلادي وآثار كنيسة قديمة بالإضافة إلى البوبرية و منطقة مغارة دير الراهبات.
