Located in the village of Burqin, 3 km west of Jenin, is Saint George’s church.  It is considered one of the oldest churches in the world, as it was built by St. Helena, the mother of Roman emperor Constantine, during the Byzantine era. It is believed to be the fourth oldest church in the world according to local tradition.

Excavations reveal that the site passed through different historical periods.  It is situated over a Roman cistern, where the miracle of the healing of the lepers by Jesus is said to have taken place.  One of the most important remains of the first church is the Patriarchal seat, the only one to be made of stone in all of Palestine, and dated to the 4th century CE.  The church also has remains from the 6th to 9th centuries, including an iconostasis considered one of the very few in Palestine to be made of stone.

تقع كنيسة مار جورجيوس في قرية برقين على بعد 3 كم غرب جنين. تعتبر من أقدم الكنائس المسيحية في العالم حيث قامت ببنائها القديسة هيلانة والدة الإمبراطور الروماني قسطنطين خلال العصر البيزنطي و يعتقد أنها رابع أقدم كنيسة في العالم بحسب التقليد المحلي.

تظهر الحفريات أن الموقع مر عبر فترات تاريخية مختلفة ابتداءا من الخزان الروماني حيث حدثت معجزة شفاء البرص على يد يسوع. من أهم بقايا الكنيسة الأولى هو المقعد البطريركي، وهو الوحيد المصنوع من الحجر في فلسطين ويرجع إلى القرن الرابع.
يوجد بالكنيسة أيضًا بقايا من القرن السادس إلى القرن التاسع ممثلة بالحاجز الأيقوني الذي يعتبر واحدًا من أقدم الأيقونات المصنوعة من الحجر في فلسطين. تتكون الكنيسة الحالية من كهف وقاعة رئيسية وصحن.
